Astrology Report for February

By Dorene Carrel

February is a lighter month in terms of major planetary activity.  Mercury has turned direct and we are still several weeks away from the March eclipses. This month it will be to our advantage to move forward with important goals and activities, as well as be ready to take action on sudden opportunities. However, Uranus and Pluto will still be within two degrees of each other (in square aspect) until mid-March, so the prospect of major change through breakdowns or breakthroughs will still be a possibility.  These events may be triggered by the faster moving planets making aspect to Uranus and Pluto, as well as aspects in one’s own natal chart.

One of these periods occurs early in February when Venus in Capricorn makes a conjunction with Pluto on February 5 and then squares Uranus on February 6.  During this time, power and control issues can surface in relationships that can lead to sudden conflicts and possible separation. Venus in Capricorn wants more security and control, while Uranus needs more freedom and is prone to rebel from limiting circumstances.  However, Mercury in trine to Jupiter/North Node on the same day can help with communication and making constructive changes. These changes can be implemented when Venus makes a favorable trine to Jupiter on February 9.

On February 8 the New Moon occurs at 19 Aquarius.  This lunation is in a tight square to Mars in Scorpio, which emphasizes the need for deeper constructive change.  The challenge can be our ability to be inventive and to see beyond our ego to fulfill a greater ideal.   Beneficial alignments with Saturn and Uranus favor attracting like-minded others to help us stay focused on our goals.   The Sabian symbol for this degree, “A large white dove bearing a message; the answer of spiritual agencies to thorough, sustained and victorious individual efforts,” suggests looking for inner confirmation to ensure that we are on the right path.

Mercury moves into Aquarius on February 13, while Venus enters this sign on February 16.  The next several weeks provide a good period for networking and creating community around personal goals and interests. The use of social media and technology could play an important role.

The Full Moon occurs on February 22 at 4 Virgo.  It aligns with both Neptune and Ceres in Pisces.  Virgo traits include being pragmatic, thorough and concerned with work and health matters, while the shadow side can be judgmental and critical.  With the strong Pisces influence, there is a need to bring in compassion, empathy and the ability to be of support to others who are having difficulties. We will need to watch out for the Pisces shadow side, which is addiction, deception and codependency. During this period it is beneficial to strive for clarity of perception as well as tuning in to our higher intuitive guidance. The Sabian symbols for these degrees, “Black and white children play together happily,” and “Heavy car traffic on a narrow isthmus linking two seashore resorts,” suggests a greater need for empathy, unity and acceptance of individual differences.

On February 23, Jupiter in Virgo opposes Chiron in Pisces. Both are in square aspect to Saturn in Sagittarius.  We may need to come to a greater understanding and compassion for a current or previous situation that may call for more attention and healing at this time.  Saturn will help us to stay organized, focused and grounded.

The Sun/Neptune alignment in Pisces on February 28 facilitates healing work while bringing in higher inspiration.  This is a good time for a creative or spiritual retreat.  Avoid making any long-term decisions these few days, as there is a tendency for confusion.  A walk in nature would be more beneficial.

March brings the solar and lunar eclipses.  Stay tuned!
