Astrology Report for Januaray 2011

 By Dorene A. Carrel

The New Year begins with a powerful planetary line-up. A New Moon Solar Eclipse and the final alignment of Jupiter and Uranus in Pisces will both occur on January 4.  Also highlighted is Jupiter’s return to Aries and Saturn going retrograde in mid-month.  With the sun and Mars moving into Aquarius later in the month, our mental and physical pace will begin to quicken.

The New Moon Solar Eclipse occurs on January 4 at 14 Capricorn and makes a challenging square to Saturn in Libra.  This is a Dragon’s Head (North Node) eclipse, which provides a feeling of newfound power and strength. Under this beneficial influence, we can develop a plan for the achievement of our new goals for the coming year. Saturn in Libra highlights the areas of justice and equality in relationships and agreements. Capricorn favors taking a step-by-step approach, as well as being economical, conscientious and organized.  The Sabian Symbol for this degree reminds us to identify what has permanent value and to let go of nonessentials.

Also on January 4, Jupiter will align with Uranus, at 27 Pisces, for the final time. Although the Jupiter/Uranus conjunction occurs every 13-14 years, the next time it will occur in Pisces is 2093.   It is also aligned with the Galactic Center, which can awaken the development of extrasensory abilities, along with perceiving other dimensions. On a more earthly level, this alignment can provide an abundance of creative ideas and inspiration to serve humanity.  A series of Venus aspects (to Neptune, Jupiter and Uranus) can bring a desire for escape and recreational ventures to round out this busy day.

From January 12-14, Mars in Capricorn makes favorable alignments with Jupiter and Uranus, providing opportunities for acting on inventive decisions or to bring some needed change to one’s daily routine.  Mars enters Aquarius on January 15, which quickens the pace of creative ideas. Mercury also aligns with the North Node in Capricorn, bringing encounters that may open new doors.  On January 17, a Mercury/Pluto conjunction favors research and deeper explorations in thought and experience.

On January 19 the Full Moon occurs at 29 Cancer 27. This is the fourth of five full moons in a row occurring at the last degree of a sign. We are again being called to finish up some facet of life experience so we can move on.  In Cancer, this likely has a connection with family, home, mother, our feelings/emotions, sensitivity, nurturing and foundations of security and support.

The shadow side of Cancer is being overly dependent, protective and moody.  Fortunately, a favorable trine to Jupiter/Uranus can provide more detachment and objectivity about emotional matters.  The Sabian Symbols for these degrees suggest the valued role of tradition and heritage, along with the use of shared power and social responsibility.

Jupiter re-enters Aries on January 22, which signals a time of bold new beginnings, growth and expansion in all areas.  Jupiter was previously in this sign from last June to September. As Aries rules those who are pioneers and entrepreneurs, this would be a good period to start a new business or enterprise.  Now we can take direct action to manifest our higher ideals. This period could also bring significant world events and earth changes as the World Degree (0 degrees) is triggered.  Jupiter travels hastily through Aries, finishing by June 4.

On January 25, Saturn turns stationary retrograde at 17 Libra, traveling backwards in Libra until mid-June 2011. Events occurring now can be a continuation of the Capricorn solar eclipse themes earlier in the month. We can use this period to develop a better method or plan of action for significant life goals. With Saturn in Libra, we might look at how balance and equality are expressed in our close relationships and partnerships.  How can we work more effectively together as a team, strive for win-win situations and support each other’s growth?

On January 28-30, the sun and Mars in Aquarius align with the dwarf planet Ceres, which rules agriculture. This would be a good period for initiating positive changes in the areas of nutrition and diet. As Aquarius favors sustainability, we can also learn about and support local food networks, such as coops, pea patches, food banks, local farmers and farmer’s markets.

February is highlighted by an Aquarius new moon aligned with Mars.  Blessings for a joyful and prosperous New Year!
